BANKSIA GARDEN

Public BBQ

One of the garden areas within the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan, and among the better picnic spots in western Sydney. Electric barbecues are provided and open flames are not permitted; they are generally well kept, though whether a given one is working and clean is something of a lottery. There are shelters, clean toilets, plenty of open lawn and enough room that groups are not sitting on top of one another. A flat sealed path suits bikes and easy walking, and a pond draws cockatoos and a great variety of native birds, best around sunset. Watch for snakes in the warmer months. Parking gets scarce on busy days and bins are thin on the ground.
